List of yuri manga with happy endings
An expansion of one of my favorite categories from here.

Yuri Manga Available in English That Have Happy Endings
It's happened to all of us, I'd wager--you're reading a nice yuri manga, the characters have confessed their love for each other and everything seems to be going fine, and then, out of nowhere, BAM! "It turns out we're sisters, she died in a fire, and, oh, did I mention I'm getting married now?" That's an extreme example (though it is a real one--Maya's Funeral Procession), but there are countless yuri manga out there where the characters don't end up together for one reason or another. And while I enjoy the occasional unhappy or ambiguous ending as much as the next person--seriously, they can be a nice change of pace from happy endings--I think we could use a list of yuri manga with happy endings... much as I dread the inevitable arguments over why X or Y manga should or shouldn't be on the list.

What exactly constitutes a happy ending is a rather gray area (as is whether or not a manga "counts" as yuri; I'd rather not have to decide that at all, but some sort of classification is necessary for the purposes of this list), but to make it onto this list, a manga must contain characters involved in a yuri pairing who are both alive (though there are reasonable exceptions, such as vampires) and together (and not just as friends) at the end of the manga.

Aside from the stuff from yurizuki.net, everything on this list is either licensed or scanlated (though not necessarily complete). In some cases, I've linked to http downloads at yurizuki instead of a scanlator's website, for ease in downloading; you can look up scanlators' websites at Manga Jouhou and other such sites.

My favorite manga are in bold; I've put asterisks after the ones that are available entirely in English and pound signs after the ones that are heavy on the smut.

I'm really not sure I'd put Simoun in the list. I loved that show, but it was very difficult for me. But, then, different parts of it probably hit me than hit you. I had a hard time getting past the loss of something sacred.

Double win for Kashimashi and YKK. I still need to finish Boku no Futatsu.

I only have the anime for KNM to go off of. Did the manga end better?

The list is based on manga only, even for titles that have also been animated. The Simoun manga that ran in Yuri Hime ended with a sweet scene between Aelle and Neviril. I'm not sure how the one that ran in Megami ended, but since it's not available in English, it's not eligible for the list anyway.

The manga version of KnM ends with Chikane and Himeko being reborn and seemingly still being in love with each other.

Ahh. Simoun also ended with a decent scene between the Lovers (no, I will not start giving them Shakugan no Shana titles, honest). But, to me, that was a little bit of redemption. What was lost still hurt more.

I'll have to take a look at the KnM manga. The anime seemed way too rushed.

What's this sacred thing that was lost? I've seen (and loved) Simoun and I'm not sure what you mean.

Please disregard my previous comment. DX;;

Thanks for the list, though! I love yuri manga that have a happy ending. :3

...you're reading...did I mention I'm getting married now?"
LOL, thanks for nice end of the day. I laughed pretty hard.

Eh, what did I forget? Ah, thanks for the list ^^. Certainly useful.

Pretty list, and I've read a lot of these. (But where's Voiceful? The yuri wasn't that obvious, but I still thought it had a happy ending.)

I have a minor concern with putting the transgender-themed manga in the second list, though. It seems transphobic to call them "maybe not yuri" just because the characters may not biologically be female. One can still identity as female and not have the body parts society "says" they must have; they are still women. It's transphobic to assume that because they don't have two X-chromosomes, they can't be considered women, even if they identify as such.

Voiceful isn't on the list because the characters aren't together as a couple.

Please don't throw around words like "transphobic" so lightly. I would classify a work with an MtF character as yuri--for example, if Fujiko and Maho had gotten together in Double House, it would have gone on the first list. But gender isn't a clear-cut matter for several characters on the honorable mentions list (some of them aren't even human!), and I'm not going to shove them into a box for the purposes of this list. I could care less about their biological sex.

You may also want to note that I state "not everyone would consider it yuri" for the honorable mentions. Not "these aren't women because they don't have female body parts" or any of the other ridiculous claims you've made, but "there is disagreement in the yuri community about whether these manga are yuri."

I do apologize if I came off as nagging, but some of the debates I've seen over "Is it yuri?" manga make me worry a bit, and the "Are they human?" thing can sometimes makes things even more unclear.

The yuri fan community spends an awful lot of time arguing over whether works are or aren't yuri for every reason under the sun. And that makes sense--we all have our own ideas about what counts as yuri and what doesn't. So with a list like this, I expect people to argue over whether titles should or shouldn't be on it, whether I should have structured it differently, etc. (the structure is based on the yuri about adults list, which has a huge number of honorable mentions; after cutting all the ones without happy endings, there are only a few left, though I'm hoping people will suggest more "light on yuri content but with a happy ending for a yuri couple" titles to add) The "honorable mentions" category lets me put titles on the list and say, "Look, there's controversy over whether these count or not, so go argue about it over on the yuri forums if you care. I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting to read a dissertation on why Hazumu is a woman or a man or both or neither or something in between in each stage of the story, and what she would have eventually identified as if she'd never gotten hit by that spaceship; but someone else out there probably is, so go find them and talk to them about it." The one title I will argue about is Ningyo Ouji, because there is no doubt in my mind that the merperson doesn't identify as just a man or just a woman (as you noted, the non-human thing makes things even less clear-cut).

And now that I'm thinking about it, do you think you should warn for the "You raped me, now I love you!" cliche? I notice that Sweet Lips is on the list, and that has some freaky stuff in it that people might want to be warned for.

I'll take a look and see if the download links for titles like that warn about rape; if they don't, I'll put a note in.

Yeah, it's shorter than I expected it to be. :/ To be fair, I'm sure I must have missed some titles that should be on there, and there are yuri manga out there that haven't ended yet but will probably end happily.

Thanks a lot for this list. I expect it'll grow as Yuri becomes more popular. BTW, I noticed you forgot to include Suika (by Yoshitomi) in the one shot list. It's not different than Sketch or Inner Revolution, which both were included.

You're welcome! Yes, I expect it to keep on growing as more yuri titles come out in English. :)
I didn't forget "Suika"--I read the ending and didn't think it belonged on the list. I'll reread it again, though, and see if I change my mind.

If the asterisks indicate which manga are available entirely in English, shouldn't one be placed after Simoun?

Also, Snowflakes Fluttering Down Through the Clear Sky links to http://www.lililicious.net/projectDet.php?id=38 but should link to http://www.lililicious.net/projectDet.php?id=39

This is a convenient list since I hate spending money, time and energy on manga that turn out to have really crappy endings. -_-; I like a happy ending or two once in awhile! :D I'll definitely have to buy "First Love Sisters" the next time I go on one of my manga sprees. I'm just happy that finally some yuri titles are getting over here!

And yeah, I'm happy to see more yuri coming over here these days too.
