I find these terms inordinately amusing (though nothing can compare to "ochoufujin," of course). In fact, the whole blog is fun to read. I recommend it!

Doujinshi list updated [Feb. 25th, 2009|10:51 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]

I've updated the doujinshi scan request list.
Notably:
-some Marimite books by Penpen-Gusa Club, UA, and RAID
-some Sailor Moon books by Jesus Drug (Hayashiya Shizuru) and Mirage House (Makise Renko)
-some Utena books, mostly by Teikoku Club
-some original books by Hibiki Reine and Sakura Shio
-some books by Morinaga Milk, mostly yaoi Odoru Saisousasen (Rhythm and Police) stuff
-another Star Trek book (TNG)

I just have one request left to fulfill now (I picked Rose Garden for you, [info]dearears), so feel free to make some more even if you already got one. Please continue to make them on the first post, though, so they're all together.

A note for Tsuda Mikiyo (Zaou Taishi) fans [Nov. 27th, 2008|09:10 am]
[Tags|, ]

Akadot Retail is currently having a sale on DMP books. I picked up Day of Revolution 1-2 for $3 apiece and Family Complex for $7. Princess Princess is on sale too (though I don't think there's any yuri subtext in that one aside from the "Prince Prince" short manga on the covers). So if you've been waiting for them to go on sale to pick them up, now might be a good time. :)
The Day I Become a Butterfly and Robot aren't by her, but yuri fans might want to check those out too since they contain one-shots with a bit of yuri subtext.

[Tags|, , , ]

My package came today (Yes! It wasn't lost at sea!), so I've updated the doujinshi scan request list again. Most notably: some books from Asai Bomb Club (they focus on works by Shimura Takako and Hagiwara Kazushi), some Aria books from Yume Monogatari, some Marimite and Hayate x Blade books from Penpen-Gusa Club, some books from Raku-Gun, some Marimite books from Double Dragon, some Marimite books from Suchara Honpo, and some original books from Prototype.

Please continue to make all requests on the first post, though, so they're all together.

Doujinshi list updated [Oct. 22nd, 2008|05:17 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

Just updated the doujinshi scan request list with a few books I got in today: several books by Boys Kingdom (Sakura Shio, who does the art for Yurimm Fairy Tales), a BL book by Jesus Drug (Hayashiya Shizuru) and Mirage House (Renko Makise), a Himitsu no Kaidan book by UKOZ (manga this time, plus a cute card game), another True Colors book of sketches by Hibiki Reine, and a couple of Sailor Moon doujinshi (including Mermaid Dream by Kiseki Museum, which you may recall from Crystal Planet's 1 and 2).

Please continue to make all requests on this post, though, so they're all together.

Doujinshi [Oct. 3rd, 2008|11:23 am]
[Tags|, , , , , ]

I'm having trouble deciding which doujinshi to scan next, so I'm taking requests.

The list of available titles is here. It's sorted by series. Most of these doujinshi are yuri; some are het, yaoi, or gen.

Please note that this is for Japanese scans only (NOT scanlations) and that it takes me a few days to scan a book and clean the scans.

(Speaking of scans, this Battle Athletes doujinshi may be of interest to Hayashiya Shizuru fans.)

comic rec [Jul. 8th, 2006|09:52 am]
[Tags|, ]

Leonard & Larry, by Tim Barela. It's about a middle-aged gay couple. It's funny, and the stories incorporate queer issues without turning it into a strip that's only about being gay.
Oh, and a few lesbians pop up here and there, but I wouldn't buy the books just for them.

Samples here.

Another comic rec: User [Apr. 12th, 2006|01:57 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

This comic rocked my socks.

It's about a girl with a crappy life who starts RPing online as a male paladin. What's that, you say? Someone who isn't into RPing is recommending a comic about it? Hell yes.

There's an in-depth review of it at PopMatters.

It's a few years old and there doesn't seem to be a graphic novel out for it (it's only three issues long, but they're long issues), but I'm guessing you can get it from comic book stores that carry used/old comics. milehighcomics.com has it on sale right now ($1.20 each for the first two issues, $3 for the third one), not sure how much the issues usually go for.

I've uploaded the first issue to yousendit. (If you can't open .cbr files, just change the extension to .zip and open it with an unzipping program.)

A BL (guyxguy) manga for those who don't like the fakeness and fantastical quality of typical BL [Dec. 19th, 2005|07:59 am]
[Tags|]

Just finished reading Akisato Wakuni's Nemureru Mori no Binan (Sleeping Handsome-- like the title of Sleeping Beauty but with a man rather than a woman) last night; I'd say it's one of the better BL manga I've read. It's about a Japanese doctor who goes to the US and ends up falling for a German doctor there. What really struck me about it were the real-world issues that came up-- it takes place in 1982, and AIDS plays a minor role in the manga. That and the difference between it (it's from the late 80s, I think) and current BL drawing styles-- both of the characters have mustaches, for example.

If you're looking for a change of pace from typical BL and can read some Japanese, I'd highly recommend it. I think the original version is out of print, but it's available together with the sequel (Tomoi) in one bunko volume called "Tomoi." The ISBN is 4091910440.

I might try to farm this around to some scanlation groups sometime next year... maybe after Thomas's Heart (one of the earliest BL manga, and apparently a very good one; it's also by Hagio Moto, whose other work I've really loved) is finished. ^^

Now to start reading the sequel... :)

Wrote today! [Feb. 10th, 2005|01:52 pm]

[music |Diana Krall - I'm Just an Errand Girl for Rhythm]

I actually *gasp* felt like writing today, so I finished one short fic and wrote a drabble. :)

The first one is a boys' love fic, about Kashiwagi and Yuuki from Marimite (and to [info]shinuhana and anyone else who hasn't seen the show, I don't think you need to have seen the show to understand the fic): His Fear

The other is a silly Valentine's Day themed humor drabble about Sei and Youko from Marimite: Chocolate Delights

Sorry for the spam, to those who have already seen the links to these. ^^
